Community outreach: Eye Camp at Mange Ram Park
18 November 2022
In an effort to reach out to communities and families of the marginalized, the Delhi State Unit of NFIW organized an eye camp on the 18th of November 2022, in partnership of the Sagar Trust. The NFIW coordinator was Vishakha Kumari.
The camp was led by Dr. Anjali Mehta, Eye surgeon, who examined over a 120 patients in need of eye care. Mostly women, these patients are unable to afford eye care. While the fees of the doctor is an important factor, a large number of these women cannot afford to travel to a doctor, or even take a day off from work +home duties to get themselves a proper check up.
By organizing such camps, Delhi Unit of NFIW seeks to reach out to women and communities. The unit had collectively decided that apart from creating political and social awareness regarding the socialist and constitutional ideology of NFIW, it was also important to organize such camps. This would help us document and showcase the extent of lack of governance and social welfare cover within the city.
A physiotherapist and a mental health specialist also used the eye camp to reach out to elderly, women and children who needed their counseling.
Dr. Anjali Mehta and her team also distributed indoor plants to discuss about the loss of green cover, pollution and environmental degradation.
